Faculty

The people at the door and at the table

Thirteen teachers share the school. Two of them are here; the others are happy to meet you at a visit.

  • Joann Sanderson, faculty chair, beside a table of stones, shells and dried plants in the early childhood room

    Joann Sanderson

    Faculty chair

Chairs the faculty, which meets every week to plan the year and talk about each child. Taught a first-grade class and now helps new teachers find their feet.

  • Lisandro Cuenca, class teacher, standing in a school corridor beside a bank of windows

    Lisandro Cuenca

    Class teacher, grade 4

Leads a fourth-grade class, teaches its main lessons and the woodwork afternoons, and writes to families once a month.

The class teacher

One teacher who knows the class

In the lower grades a class teacher begins with the class in first grade and stays with it, with specialists beside them.

  • Teaches the main lesson

Two hours each morning, on one subject at a time, with the class teacher's own stories and drawings.

  • Knows each child's year

The same teacher sees how a child grows from one term to the next, and tells families what they see.

  • Talks with families

A monthly letter, a meeting in the winter and a conversation whenever a family asks.

Meet the teachers

Visit mornings include time with a class teacher.
