Questions
What families ask us
How does admissions work?
Families visit, apply and hear from us in March. The admissions page lists each step, and the calendar there shows the months.
When are open houses and visits?
Open houses are in November and February. Visit mornings run most Tuesdays from October to May, and you may book one on the visit page.
Can we visit before applying?
Yes. A visit morning is how most families begin. You watch a main lesson and talk with a teacher, and your child may come along.
What is a day like?
Mornings begin with a circle and a main lesson, then snack and time outdoors. Afternoons are for painting, woodwork or gardening. The day page walks through it hour by hour.
Why does one teacher stay with a class?
A class teacher begins with a class in first grade and stays with it, so the teacher knows each child's habits and a family has one person to talk with. Specialists teach music, language and handwork, and subject teachers join the class teacher in the upper grades.
When do children learn to read?
In the early years children meet letters through stories, pictures and songs. Reading lessons begin in first grade, and teachers go at each child's pace. Teachers talk with families about each child's year in the winter.
How does tuition work, and how do we ask about financial aid?
Tuition is set by the year and the class, and the office gives the figures at a visit. Financial aid is available; here is how to apply: an aid form follows the application. The tuition page explains each step.
How big are the classes?
Class sizes are on the board on the safety page and in the program matrix, for each stage.
What about lunch, clothing and phones?
Families send a lunch. Children wear plain clothes they can get dirty, with boots and a change of clothes in the cubby. Phones stay in backpacks, switched off. The policies page has the details.
Is there care after school?
Yes. After care runs on school days until 5:30 p.m. Families pay for the days they use.
Still have a question?
Write to the office, or book a visit morning.
