Family policies
What families ask before the first day.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A child with a fever, or who has been sick in the night, stays home until the next morning. A teacher calls a parent when a child is unwell at school, and the office sends a note when something is going around.
Drop-off and pickup
Doors open at 8:00 a.m., and the class teacher greets each child at the door. Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m., and at 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. Only the adults on a family's pickup list may collect a child, and we ask to see ID until we know you.
Closures for weather and holidays
The school closes for the usual holidays, a winter break and a spring break, and for snow. A closure goes out by text and email before 6:30 a.m.
Leaving the program
We ask families to tell the office in writing before the end of a term, so the teacher can plan for the class. The enrollment agreement explains how a term in progress is handled.
Screens and phones
Children do not use screens during the school day. A phone that comes to school stays in the backpack, switched off. Teachers are glad to talk about screens at home whenever a family asks.
What to wear and bring
Children wear plain, comfortable clothes they can get dirty, with boots, a hat and rain gear for outdoor time. Each child keeps a change of clothes in the cubby. There is no uniform, and the class teacher sends a list in the summer.
Meals, snacks and allergies
Families send a lunch, and the school provides water and, for the youngest, a snack chopped or baked in the room. Tell us about allergies at the visit; we ask privately once you enroll, and each teacher keeps the plan for the children in the room.
